Statement of Purpose

The Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ Board of Governors is responsible to govern effectively:

  • to ensure Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ is successfully managed;
  • to achieve Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµâ€™s mission; and
  • to remain responsive to community needs and emerging opportunities.

The Board of Governors is accountable to students, employees, employers, Indigenous Peoples, the communities Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ serves, and the citizens of Ontario.

Role of a Board Member

The Minister’s Binding Policy Directive describes the role of the Board of Governors as follows:

  • Establishing governance structures to enable the achievement of expected institutional outcomes with clear lines of communication and internal accountability.
  • Setting the college vision, strategic directions, and overall goals and outcomes within the context of the appropriate laws, government policy, and local need.
  • Hiring the CEO (i.e., president), delegating to the CEO accountability for the performance and operation of the college, and evaluating the CEO’s performance.
  • Approving the college’s annual business plan, budget, and annual report.
  • Assessing periodically the effectiveness of the Board with respect to governance, accountability, and the attainment of corporate goals and outcomes.
  • Ensuring that appropriate corrective action is taken where expected outcomes or quality of performance is not being achieved.

Serving on the Board of Governors

The Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ Board of Governors is seeking interested individuals to act as new governors to fill vacancies occurring in the next 3 years.

Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ Board of Governors is responsible to govern effectively:

  • to ensure Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ is successfully managed;
  • to achieve Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµâ€™s mission; and
  • to remain responsive to the community’s needs and emerging opportunities.

The Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ Board of Governors is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and is seeking committed individuals from a variety of sectors including mining, health care, public service, law, education and Indigenous business or services. The governor’s term will be for three years, with the possibility of a second three-year term.

Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµâ€™s catchment area represents a large geographic region, and representation is encouraged from those areas where vacancies will occur over the next three years, for example, Cochrane, Kapuskasing, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kirkland Lake, Moosonee, James Bay Coast, and the Tri-Town area. The Board meets in person six times per year, with each campus hosting at least once per year. Light travel between meetings may also be possible for advocacy and outreach opportunities.
